Automatic Rotary Evaporator

A rotary evaporator (often abbreviatedas “rotavap”) is laboratory equipment primarily designed for solvent removal via “evaporation under reduced pressure”.

The reduced pressure within the system lowers the solvent’s boiling point inside the rotating round-bottom flask. Rotation of the flask increases the solvent’s surface area, significantly accelerating the evaporation rate. The solvent vapor then travels into a water-cooled condenser, where it condenses back into liquid form and drips into a receiving flask. This process effectively removes the solvent, leaving the desired compound concentrated in the original flask.
